When the cat arrives home wearing an odd sweater, the family is shocked.

It happens every time he sneaks out …

In 2019, Papa Legba’s family discovered him on the streets and took him in right away. Though they had hoped to turn him into an indoor cat, Papa Legba has always had a spirit of adventure and would always find a way to go away and spend some time exploring the area.

Papa Legba’s mother, Crystal Robert, told The Dodo, “When he sneaks out (we do make an effort to keep him in), he seems to run in the same direction, as if he has someplace to go.” “When he hears the rattle of cat treats or hears his name called,” he returns home.

Robert had always had a sneaking suspicion that Papa Legba could have another family nearby that he occasionally visits, but she had never been able to verify anything. That is, until one day, when Papa Legba returned home dressed in a sweater.

Robert remarked, “It’s unbelievable that his second family convinced him to wear a sweater.” He enjoys being hugged and held, but he detests being stroked and put in collars. He prefers communication only on his terms. How on earth did they convince him to put on a sweater? It seems that he enjoys it. He appears more submissive, or perhaps only ashamed.

A few weeks later, Papa Legba arrived home decked up in a pink festive outfit. His first sweater was a blue striped one. The T-shirt that reads, “Born to be awesome,” is the most recent addition to his wardrobe. Robert is still unaware of the identity of his second family, but she is anxious to uncover more information about Papa Legba’s covert activities.

“I have narrowed it down to two houses,” Robert said. “I am making my way to those houses on my rounds with baked goods in the hope of information. I have already met with five families. I haven’t met his other family yet, but I hope we can continue to ‘share’ custody.”

Papa Legba’s family would much rather he stayed at home, but they are happy he has another family out there watching out for him, and they can’t wait to meet them someday and express their gratitude for the sweaters.

“I hope people can keep their pets at home, inside,” Robert said. “They are our family and they are safest when with their owners, but if you have a wily cat like ours, I hope you are blessed with generous and lovely neighbors like mine.”
