Waiting patiently for someone to rescue him, a giant dog is tied to a bench.

When a sizable gray-and-white pit bull mix was found by Austin Humane Society (AHS) rescuers in a park in November 2023, they were taken aback. The adorable boy had a leash attached to his collar, but regrettably, someone had tied it to a park bench before abandoning him.

The poor guy was obviously unwell, which increased the urgency of AHS’s rescue effort.

He was, according to the 15/10 Foundation, “crustier from head to toe.” “He needed medicated baths, eye drops, and ointment desperately to treat his skin and eye infections.”

When the AHS rescuers arrived, the dog—later named Gordough—wagging his tail excitedly despite being in pain. Gordough only needed a reassuring head scratch to know he could put his trust in his new mates. He disintegrated into their grasp and allowed them to remove his leash from the seat.

Although Gordough’s patience was immediately apparent to the AHS personnel, they were unaware of his true specialness until they returned to the shelter.

AHS posted on Instagram, “Gordough is a big guy, he weighs 115 pounds but has a sweet and gentle demeanor.” “He has quickly emerged as a staff favorite, and it’s understandable why!”

Despite the fact that Gordough’s skin issues required emergency care, the cute giant seemed unaffected by the commotion. He barely noticed the several ointments being given to his body as he sat quietly while his new buddies gave him a bath.

The tough youngster, who had recently survived a horrible abandonment, was simply relieved to be loved.

AHS compared doughnuts to “one of those reclining happy Buddha statues [come] to life,” which she later shared on Facebook after speaking with the 15/10 Foundation. “Every couch potato can find inspiration from the zen master.”

The tale of Gordough’s rescue went viral on social media while he slept at AHS. Gordough’s medical costs will be met by the nonprofit 15/10 Foundation, which supports shelter dogs in need of medical attention.

Gordough was able to get the care he required because of their assistance. He quickly located a foster home where he could stay in a comfortable setting and complete his recovery.

You wouldn’t realize from looking at him that AHS discovered Gordough strapped to a bench a few months ago. Now that his body is completely healed, he beams as though love is all he has ever known.

Now that he has put his challenging past behind him, Gordough is at last leading the life he has always desired. And he has the happiest pals at AHS and the 15/10 Foundation.

The 15/10 Foundation posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “This big lug is free to begin his new life now that he’s healed from his skin and eye infections.” “May you always be [an inspiration] for couch potatoes everywhere, Gourdough.”
